21st Century Contemporary Ebony India Vase Handcrafted, Italy

About the Item

Named after the designer's memory of a trip to India, the India vase's elegant shape is the result of the symbiosis between the emerging 3D print technology and Italian craftsmanship. Made of a biodegradable non-toxic thermoplastic derived from renewable resources, the color of the collection derives from its natural component. In fact, the India vase is made of ebony and 30% of PLA, the polylactic acid derived from renewable resources, like maize and compostable in industrial facilities. The particular color of the object symbolizes the high quality of its material: ebony is renowned for its preciousness and beauty. By using the newest printing techniques, the piece folds, swells, moves and takes shape in a surface that can feel like fabric to the touch. Fornice Objects uses a technology that’s rapid, repeatable and rigorous to make bold yet ethereal statements. This piece is not water-resistant and may be used as sculpture or only for dried flowers. The pleated surfaces seems like fabric at first glance and only weights 300 grams.

Salvatori’s works often begin with these items and proceed by the addition of elements masterfully created by the artist, generating an unexpected semantic shift. The result is unique, encompassing pop culture and kitsch aesthetics: a witty and effective way to turn reality upside-down and at the same time a powerful combination of exquisite craftsmanship and genuine irony. Andrea Salvatori was born on 3 of March 1975 in Faenza (Ra), Italy; he has graduated at the Istituto d’arte for Ceramic in Faenza in 1995, and he then graduated with a Degree in Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Bologna in 2000. During his studies, Andrea learned the secrets of ceramics from the creative duo Bertozzi & Casoni having worked as an apprentice in their studio for many years at the same way as during Renaissance artists learned their practice with their Masters.
