About the Item

An elegant bronze vase by Takahashi Keiten (1915–2007), one of Japan’s most celebrated metal artists and a designated Living National Treasure. This piece showcases Keiten’s masterful use of shakudō—a traditional Japanese alloy of copper and gold—finished with a rich, multi-hued patina in deep reds, browns, and subtle greens. The vase is ovoid in form with a narrow opening, highlighting the natural flow of the metal and the complexity of its surface coloration. Keiten’s refined control over metal patination gives the vessel a painterly quality, evoking a sense of quiet strength and timeless beauty. Signed by the artist on the accompanying tomobako (original wood box), which bears his seal and calligraphy. Dimensions: Diameter: 20 cm (7.87 in) Height: 20 cm (7.87 in) Provenance: From a private collection in Japan. The tomobako is signed and sealed by the artist. About the Artist: Takahashi Keiten was officially recognized as a Living National Treasure in 1977 for his exceptional achievements in metalwork. His works are held in major museums and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
