About the Item

Clear Cochlea Della Consapevolezza Vase by Coki Barbieri Dimensions: W 24 x D 14 x H 30 cm. Materials: Handcrafted stone made with Matera stone fragments, sedimentary rocks of the Italian Apennines and pure water, clear borosilicate glass. Cochlea della Consapevolezza Embellished with Italian rock salt crystals colored with natural pigments from the Italian subsoil, this vase from the Cochlea collection (inspired by the metamorphosis of snails) represents architecture and nature united together: curved and geometric shapes resulting from glass and sustainable stone. Like all COKI products, it is entirely made in Italy with raw materials processed according to the highest standards of recovery of virgin stones and using only substances that are not harmful to humans and the environment, without components of animal origin. The particular technique Glaciazione makes it possible to unite crystals and the handcrafted stone created from fragments of historical stones found in Matera (Città dei Sassi, UNESCO World Heritage, European Capital of Culture) and sedimentary rocks of the Italian Apennines, recovered and reprocessed following a sustainable production cycle. This material research is original from the COKI studio and uses a natural chemical and physical adhesion process between the two materials. The result is a composite material, biodegradable in water, so it is recommended not to wet the stone part and always keep it away from sources of humidity. A precious objects collection made in Italy with natural and vegan origin materials, conceived by architectural and product designer Coki Barbieri and created by the local craftsmen to expand a new slow living awareness and surround oneself with a few objects, capable of staying alongside us over time. The climate emergency and increased future anxiety push our work to imagine alternative ways of living, producing, and consuming. For that Coki Barbieri uses notions of geology, chemistry, and design culture to create new products (and materials) from fragments and waste from natural products (such as stone and minerals). Coki Barbieri established her eponymous studio-workshop in Rimini in 2017, bringing to life a sustainable way of conceiving the product design for home. Nature inspires her environmentally conscious creations, which are imbued with emotional energy while maintaining their aesthetic impact and practical functionality. Coki collaborates with talented Italian craftsmen to produce one-of-a-kind homeware objects capable of unlocking new synergies between concepts, materials, and use.

Torsion in Clear 22/09, abstract sculptural handblown glass vessel by Emma Baker
By Emma Baker
Located in London, GB
'Torsion in Clear 22/09' is a unique sculptural artwork by the British artist, Emma Baker. Emma Baker has worked with glass for over ten years, initially encountering the material whilst studying Applied Arts at Bournemouth University, she received her BA (hons) from Sunderland University in 2014. Her passion for learning and understanding the material has driven her to work with an abundance of glassmakers in a variety of locations. In 2019 she became one of two Associate Artists at North Lands Creative, a two-year programme supporting & developing the practice of glass artists. She spent 2020 living and working in Bergen, Norway, keeping the furnace alight at S12 Galleri og Verksted, an incredible experience that Baker describes as a pivotal point in her life and career. In the summer of 2022, the United Nations’ year of glass, she was invited by the National Glas Museum in Leerdam, Holland, for an international glass exchange to create work that is now held in their public collection. She has been awarded residencies at Berlin Glas, The Glass Factory, S12 Bergen and North Lands Creative; alongside this her work has been shown across the UK & Europe, most recently at the Crafts Council’s Collect 2023, London. She has received scholarship funding to the USA and has worked on international cross-cultural projects...
