About the Item

Elegant vintage soliflore bronze vase features streamlined Art Deco design with wide rounded base and elongated, minimally shaped body. It was created by Dirigold (later renamed Dirilyte) company in 1930s. The vase is marked with the Dirigold stamp on the bottom; it is in good vintage condition with beautiful, age-appropriate patina on brass. It can be displayed as either table or shelf decor due to convenient size; it would complement multiple styles of interiors, from Art Deco to Arts and Crafts, Modernist, Scandinavian Modern, Contemporary, Transitional, or Collected. Dirilyte, as it is known today, was originally created as Dirigold. The alloy was originally developed in 1914 by a Swedish metallurgist CarI Molin, who exhibited Dirigold pieces at World's Fair in New York City and Gohlenburg Exposition, achieving resounding success and receiving an invitation to bring Dirigold to USA. In 1924 a selling company was formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota and production plant was founded in Kokomo, Indiana. The years 1926 through 1930 were spent in the development of the American manufacturing plant, but the Great Depression affected the new company, ending up with its sale in 1935. The new company was known as American Art Alloys, but it marketed under the name of Dirigold. In 1935 the Federal Trade Commision brought suit against the company, charging that the name "Dirigold" was misleading to the public, because the alloy did not contain any gold. As a result, the company was forced to change the product name to Dirilyte. The firm operated under the name of the Dirilyte Company of America until 1971, when the product line and equipment were purchased by Hand Industries, Inc. of Warsaw, Indiana.
