About the Item

An important glass vessel, designed by René Lalique in 1920 and made in his workshop in Wingen on the river Moder in the 1920ties. In the catalogue the piece is listed as a shallow vase with stopper, "Vase meplat Sirènes avec bouchon figurine". It is rather reminiscent of a giant perfume bottle, alike a huge factice variation of the famous Amphitrite bottle that Lalique designed the very same year. With its cut signature "RLALIQUE" it is a very early execution of this design, showing that on the one hand this is a super rare and beautiful design, likely made for decorative purposes only. However on the other hand, due to some superficial craquele lines from the mold, that production quality had room for improvement so shortly after world war one. This vessel can be found in the catalogue raisonné - Cf. « René Lalique 1860-1945 ... catalogue raisonné », Félix Marcilhac, les editions de l'amateur, 4th edition, N° 883, on page 411.
