Japanese Wabi Sabi Antique Pottery Jar/1600s/Edo Period Vase

About the Item

It is "Shigaraki ware". Shigaraki is a historical kiln located in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. (Shigaraki Kiln is marked with a red circle on the map.) It is said to have originated in the 8th century. In Japan, there are 6 historical kilns that are still in operation. One of them. This is a jar made in the early Edo period, that is, in the early 17th century. Originally, the upper part was narrowed, but it was broken, so it is in such a state. Rather, this shape has a cool shape. Also, there is a part where the bottom was also cracked and glued. Please have a look at the photos. It has an interesting shape. It is rare because it was only made for a short period around the 1600s. It is unglazed, but it is well baked. One of the characteristics of Shigaraki ware is that the baked color is orange. I filled it halfway with water and left it for half a day, but there was no water leakage. Weight: 2.9kg.
