About the Item

Elegant Italian Murano Sommerso glass votive vase signed "SKL". The Art Deco Murano Spherical Sommerso Stylish glass is mesmorizing. The striking color of sea green blends with blue and "frosty white" colors submerged within clear glass. The condition is excellent, aged, modern and measures approximately 5" in height by 5" in diameter with a 2.5" ground base diameter and a 1.75" opening. Heavy, decorative, and beautiful! This votive vase is quite rare and a must have for any collector. #9025 Sommerso is an Italian term meaning "submerged", referring to a Murano glassmaking technique where multiple layers of contrasting colored glass are overlaid without mixing, ofen with a clear outer layer. This creates a unique "vase within a vase" effect and a play of light and color. This technique was devloped in Murano, Italy, in the 1930's by Carlo Scarpa at Venini & Co., and gained worldwide fame in the 1950s through the work of Flavio Poli, aristic director of Seguso Vetri d'Arte. These votive vases are considered modern art decorations, suitable for various settings like kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, or offices. They can be used to diplay flowers, candles, or simply as decorative objects themselves due to their artistic value and mesmerizing colors.
