Midcentury Mdina Glass "Lollipop" Vase by Michael Harris, Malta, circa 1960s

About the Item

Mdina Glass "Lollipop" Vase by Michael Harris, Malta, circa 1960s A superb example of early Mdina Glass, designed by Michael Harris in the 1960s. After founding Mdina Glass in 1968 on the island of Malta, Harris developed a distinctive style influenced by the island’s sea, sand, and landscape. The "lollipop" vases, among his most iconic forms, were conceived during this period as a celebration of organic, freeform glassmaking — rejecting rigid symmetry in favor of fluid, expressive design. Handmade by skilled artisans, this piece features Mdina's signature intricate beige trailing pattern over vibrant clear blue glass. It is beautifully proportioned, visually striking, and tactile in the hand — a hallmark of Harris's philosophy that glass should feel alive and personal. The vase bears the original Mdina Glass label. Dimensions: Height: 23 cm (9.06 in) Width: 14 cm (5.51 in) Depth: 8 cm (3.15 in) Excellent vintage condition. A collectible piece from one of the great innovators of 20th-century studio glass. We specialize in antique and 20th-century ceramics, glass, and decorative objects, including lamps, side tables, stools, and mirrors.
