About the Item
Venetian art glass vase by Napoleone Martinuzzi.
An antique pre WWII unique piece made in Italy at the Murano island in Venice, back in the 1935. It was designed by the artistic director Napoleone Martinuzzi for the Vetri Artistici e Mosaici Zecchin & Martinuzzi, a Venetian glass company founded by Vittorio zecchin and Napoleone Martinuzzi in the 1932. This rare bulbous amphora vase was blow (Soffiato) and treated with applied red glass-paste at the fluted neck and the two handles. The main body is made of black pasta vitrea "patte de verre" with flakes of silver foil inclusions and the handles and the trims in vivid red glass.
Measurements: The height is 12.25 inches (31.12 cm) and the base diameter is 7.5 inches (19.05 Cm).

Napoleone Martinuzzi
He was born in Murano in 1892 and died in Venice in 1977. In 1910 he studied sculpture subject in Rome together with Angelo Zanelli. He got back to Murano, and in 1925 he joined the Venini & C. as partner and art director. His creativity gave him a position in the front line of rebirth of the art of glassmaking. In 1928 he made experiments with the pulegoso glass. In 1932 together with Francesco Zecchin he established the Zecchin-Martinuzzi firm, participating in the 1933 Triennale, where he exhibited a series of zoomorphoses sculptures. After a long break, in 1947 he worked as art director at Seguso Arte Vetro. From 1953 to 1958 he designed chandeliers and vitreous tiles for Cenedese. During the 60's some of his works have been executed by Antonio Barbini.
Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the glass. All parts are secured and this piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.

Napoleone Martinuzzi
Napoleone Martinuzzi was born on May 31, 1892, in Murano.
Active as a sculptor in Rome at the beginning of the 20th century, Martinuzzi came back to Murano in 1925 to found the Vetri Soffiati Muranese Venini and Company, along with Paolo Venini and Francesco Zecchin. At this company, Martinuzzi was the art director.
In 1932, Martinuzzi left the firm and founded the Zecchin Martinuzzi Vetri Artistici e Mosaici along with Francesco Zecchin. Between 1951 and 1952, he became the designer for Arte Vetro di Alberto Seguso. He is still considered one of the finest Murano glass designers of all time. Martinuzzi died on May 15, 1977, in Venice.
