Pair of Antique Cloisonne Enamel Japanese Meiji Period Vases

About

This pair of statuesque cloisonne enamel vases were made during the Japanese Meiji period in the late 19th century. The vases are ovoid in shape, and set with a blue ground. Their polished surfaces are adorned with foliate scenes of trees, birds and flowers in cloisonne enamel. So many wonderful pieces were made in the Meiji period using this technique that it was referred to as the 'Golden Age' of enameling. The cloisonne enamel technique uses Fine wires to create shapes, called cloisons, on an object to then be filled with enamel paste before firing and polishing.
