Pair of Moser Glass and Enamel Vases

About the Item

Pair of Glass and Enamel Acorn Vases Moser Late 19th Century This exquisite pair of miniature two-handled vases exemplifies the remarkable artistry of Moser, one of the most celebrated names in Bohemian glassmaking. Despite their small scale, these vases display astonishing three-dimensional detail, making them exceptional examples of Moser’s intricate craftsmanship. The rich ruby-red glass serves as a striking backdrop for the raised acorn motifs that adorn their entire form, each one meticulously sculpted in relief. Delicate hand-painted enamel vines wind across the surface, accompanied by tiny enameled insects, lending a lifelike quality to the decoration which is elevated by fine gilt details. Ludwig Moser, revered as the “King of Glass,” was renowned for his exceptional enameled glasswork, favored by European royalty and aristocracy. Encouraged by the Austro-Hungarian governments, Ludvik Moser quickly excelled as a glass artist while serving an apprenticeship under accomplished artist O.J. Mattoni. Through working with the Health Spa at Karlsbad, producing and decorating glassware for serving the healing waters found at the spa, Moser quickly acquired a following and demand for his work. By 1857, Moser was able to open his shop full of bright, glistening chandeliers and mirrors, which further illuminated his glass creations. Moser quickly acquired a noble clientele and displayed at International Exhibitions where his work was highly awarded. Some of his well-known patrons included the Imperial Court of the Emperor of Austria, King Edward VII of Great Britain, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Pope Pius XI and King Farouk of Egypt.
