About the Item
This exquisite, one-of-a-kind bronze vase by Marcello Fantoni is a true work of art, steeped in the brutalist style that defined his legacy. Signed by the artist on its base, this vase is more than a mere vessel—it’s a testament to Fantoni’s mastery and his ability to capture the raw, tactile essence of bronze through meticulous craftsmanship and an exceptional artistic vision. Every detail of this piece speaks to the rugged beauty and timeless allure of Italian mid-century design, making it an invaluable find for the discerning collector.
Hand-forged in the 1950s, the vase boasts a rich and organic patina, amplified by a subtle but intentional oxidation. This natural, time-worn finish enhances its highly textured, almost sculptural quality, imbuing the piece with a dreamlike, elemental presence. It brings an unexpected depth to its compact size (15 cm in diameter and 16.5 cm in height), effortlessly capturing attention from every angle and drawing the viewer in with its layered history.
Fantoni’s work is celebrated for transforming bronze into an almost mystical medium, and this vase is a pristine example. Its surface is alive with intricate patterns, the result of Fantoni's signature technique that pairs a brutalist approach with an artisanal sensitivity to texture and form. The piece’s sturdy weight and solid construction add to its impactful presence, creating a harmonious balance between elegance and raw, earthbound simplicity.
Perfect as a standalone piece or within a curated collection, this vase transcends its function, embodying the ethos of Italian mid-century brutalism. Its refined yet rugged character complements both contemporary and classic interiors, making it an object of admiration and conversation. This rare work of art by Marcello Fantoni offers a deep connection to Italy’s design heritage, infusing any space with sophistication and a sense of history.

Marcello Fantoni
Marcello Fantoni was a Florentine artist who specialized in ceramics. He studied at the Art Institute in Florence, where Libero Andreotti and Bruno Innocenti were his sculpting professors and Gianni Vagnetti was his figurative art professor. After the Second World War, he became very successful, and his works are held in some of the world's most important museums (from the USA to Japan).
