Rare Karin Hammar for Stockholms Glasbruk Vase, Sweden Art Glass, Glows in UV

About the Item

Striking Scandinavian Modern art glass vase was designed by Karin Hammar and hand blown by Stockholms Glasbruk. Graphic, geometrical body of the vase was made in blue glass with dark blue pigment inclusions and controlled bubbles; it is supported by a bright mottled yellow glass base. Free formed disks in same yellow glass adorn the lower half of the vase, guiding the eye and supporting the minimal, but colorful design of the piece. The yellow glass areas glow in UV light, with intense, bright yellow hue that suggests an addition of Manganese to the glass formulation; please note the glow in the video with UV light turned on and off at short intervals. The vase is clearly signed in etching on the bottom with handwritten "Sthlms Glasbruk Skansen Karin Hammar Lisavasen"; it retains original company's paper sticker " Stockholms Glasbruk M&G Hammar Skansen" on the lower part of the vase; it dates the vase from 1980 to 1995. Stockholms Glassworks was founded in Skansen, Sweden, in 1930s by Ture and Lily Berglund; after 1980, their daughter, Marianne, with her husband, Göran Hammar, continued developing the glass studio, and their granddaughter Karin Hammar later took over in 1995 until 2020. This piece of glasswork is from these years as seen in maker label. This company is currently managed by Martin Ehrensvärd and Aleksandra Pavlenkova.

Michael Shearer Art Deco Amethyst and Clear Vase, California Art Glass, UV Glow
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural Art Deco style vase was hand blown in clear glass enclosed in the amethyst glass base. The piece is signed by the artist on both sides of the vase near the bottom with "Michael Shearer 1985". The vase is in good vintage condition; please note a small air bubble inside the clear portion of the glass, that is not a flaw, but a part of hand-blown glass process, and it does not detract from overall beauty and quality of the piece. Amethyst glass part of the vase glows in UV light. Michael Shearer (1946-2021) was an established glass artist who studied art in Costa Mesa College and opened his first studio in Hermosa Beach, California, in 1976; in 1983 he moved the studio to Laguna Niguel...
