A 19th Century Monumental Cobalt Blue Ground Royal Vienna Porcelain Covered Vase with Watteau Scenes. Marvel at the sheer magnificence of this very large, Monumental Royal Blue Ground Royal Vienna Porcelain Covered Vase, an exquisite masterpiece that will leave you in awe. The hand-painted Watteau Scenes on this vase depict a wonderful rural landscape that features a group of beautiful women in gorgeous gowns of burnt-orange, lavender, blue, white, pink, yellow, and apricot. The women are surrounded by a pastoral landscape and a lovely old tree painted realistically with twisted branches, where a cute plump cherub sits on one of the branches and looks down at the dynamic and festive looking women. Two of the women hold a lovely garland of pastel colored flowers, while the others swoon around or perch, leaning on a sweet-looking, doe-eyed white and grey cow that is lying on the ground seemingly enjoying the interaction as it twists its head around to lick its left leg. The foreground of the scene is adorned with detail that creates a sense of depth and perspective. The blue sky and puffy afternoon clouds surrounding the women add to the idyllic atmosphere of the painting. The vase's body is a beautiful deep shiny blue background with extensive delicate gilded decoration in a lace-like pattern surrounding the entire vase except for the painted scenes. The classic urn shape with a footed base and a lovely mounded lid adorned with a perfectly proportioned golden acorn finial. A fantastic quality pair of Russian Empire cobalt blue and gold ground swan handle porcelain vases. Each piece is of Amphora form with a gorgeous 24K gold matted, burnished, and shiny front and backside decoration. The front panels consist of a young girl and a young boy, where the young girl is seen holding food on her head with a water pale in her hand walking through the town, while the boy is seen holding a basket of fruit up and walking it back home. The reverse of each of the vases is also elaborately decorated with one of the scenes being a comfy home with a beautiful woody landscape with a deer running through the backyard, while the other vase has a gorgeous landscape scene with a man riding a horse in the background. On either side of the vases are two-tone matte and burnished 24K gold swan form handles. Underneath the handles are 24K gold hand-painted decorations over a cobalt blue ground. An important and extremely large pair of Magenta Ground Vienna Porcelain Exhibition vases. Austrian, circa 1900. Each vase with blue underglazed ‘Beehive’ mark to interior of neck. Each vase is finely painted with classical scenes to the front and allegorical scenes to the back on a rich magenta ground with gilt foliate decoration. The vases are mounted by extraordinary gilt handles headed by winged female masks to the sides and grotesque masks to the shoulders. The spreading necks decorated with Greek key decoration are surmounted by domed covers and the vases are raised on baluster form supports put down on drum bases finely painted with panels stylised arabesque. The Vienna Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1718 only eight years after Johann Friedrich Bottger and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus had succeeded in unearthing the secret of Porcelain Manufacture for August the Strong, Elector of Saxony. On May 25, 1718, Emperor Karl VI signed a "special privilege" awarding Claudius Innocentius du Paquier the exclusive right to produce porcelain in the Austrian crown lands. Production being almost exclusively for the imperial household and the court nobility. During the rococo era, Empress Maria Theresia placed the company under imperial ownership and it was during this period that the manufactory began to produce the famous rococo genre scenes after Watteau. Under the management of Conrad Sorgel von Sorgenthal, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory achieved an international reputation for its neo-classical style. After the wars with France brought the manufactory to the brink of ruin, the Vienna Congress at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century gave porcelain from Vienna a renewed upswing.
