About the Item

Elegantly crafted, this grey ceramic vase from the Verona series by renowned Swedish mid-century designer Ingrid Atterberg for Upsala Ekeby presents a captivating blend of textures and hues. The upper part, mouth, and handle of the vase are fashioned from smooth earthenware, boasting a light gray glaze with subtle darker pigments. In contrast, the rest of the vase is constructed from chamotte, characterized by its highly textured surface. The application of the darker pigments in the glaze on the chamotte creates a dynamic interplay, resulting in a darker and livelier grey hue. With its squared handle and distinctive design, this vintage vase bears the mark "UE Sweden 2582 Ag" underneath. Standing at a height of 16.5 cm and with a diameter of 9 cm, it exudes a rustic charm that adds character to any space. About Ingrid Atterberg: Ingrid Atterberg, born on May 11, 1920, in Härnösand, Sweden, and passed away on March 27, 2008, in Uppsala, was a celebrated Swedish ceramist closely associated with Upsala-Ekeby. In 1969, she ventured to establish her own ceramics workshop in Uppsala, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable craftsmanship and innovative designs. About Upsala Ekeby: Upsala-Ekeby, founded in 1886, initially focused on manufacturing bricks but soon expanded its production to include wall tiles, tile stoves, and household ceramics. With the incorporation of the Gefle porcelain factory in 1935, Upsala-Ekeby further solidified its position in the industry. However, production ceased in 1977, marking the end of an era for this iconic Swedish ceramics manufacturer.
