About the Item

A strikingly sculptural amphora-form vase by Seguso Vetri d’Arte, crafted in Italy during the 1970s. Realised in richly pigmented cobalt blue scavo glass, the vase draws its aesthetic vocabulary from antiquity while embracing the technical innovations of 20th-century Venetian glassmaking. The form is classical: a baluster-shaped body rises into a tall, tapering neck with a gently flared rim, flanked by elegant looped handles and resting on a broad splayed foot. The surface is finished in scavo—a technique derived from the Italian scavare, meaning “to excavate”—whereby chemical treatments are applied during the hot-working process to create a matte, weathered patina. The result is a surface evocative of ancient Roman glass unearthed after centuries underground, tactile and subtly irregular. Measuring 46 cm in height with a diameter of 16.5 cm, the vase presents beautifully and is offered in excellent vintage condition, with no structural flaws noted.
