About the Item

A tall and characterful glass bottle vase, handcrafted by Mdina Glass on the Mediterranean island of Malta during the mid-1970s. The glass is worked in rich, organic tones of deep brown and ochre yellow, producing a variegated effect reminiscent of tortoiseshell—an iconic surface treatment introduced by Mdina in the 1970s and now among the studio’s most sought-after patterns. Thread-thin lines of yellow and blue meander across the surface, offering a delicate contrast to the mottled, earthy ground. The bottle form, measuring 36 cm in height with a slender 8 cm diameter, is softly irregular and subtly asymmetrical—qualities that reflect the intuitive, hand-led approach of Mdina’s glassmakers during this period. Signed Mdina to the base and in very good vintage condition.
