This highly hand-painted center panel dates to the early years of what is considered the Golden Age of Carousels. The mid-late 1800s was a time when art and the industrial revolution coalesced, as immigrant artisans and industrialists created these incredible wooden carousels. It is a bit sad that almost all of the original complete carousels no longer exist. This is one of the important and visible panels that created the back inside wall behind the horses. Look at the effort that was made to finish it. It is showing am aged checked patina with early layers of repaint. The center art panel is finished in an English hunt scene. It shows well painted horses with one rider still on his horse and the second having been thrown into the water. All the sockets have been rewired.
