19th Century French Wooden Carousel Horse
About the Item
We sourced this antique fairground horse from Versailles, France. Early 19th Century. A delightful and decorative carousel horse, which captures the whimsy and craftsmanship of a bygone era.
The first time we have bought one of these. Usually we find that they have a slightly cartoon or silly jumping pose that doesn't work off the carousel.
But this one stands very proud and has a handsome position. Really we were blown away by the many repairs and gorgeous patina throughout. The paintwork is worn and faded with traces of its original colour palette still visible. The lovely aged patina enhances its charm and historical authenticity.
This would make an enchanting statement in both traditional and eclectic interiors.
