About the Item

Splendid polychrome majolica plate belonging to the Montelupo ceramic workshop. The enamel has also been applied to the rim, in an elegant aqua green, while the background is white decorated with brown lines that further enhance its beauty. The body of the plate depicts a male figure walking, dressed in traditional 17th-century folk clothing: wide trousers with tights, a bodice with buttons and a hat on his head. In his left hand he holds a rifle positioned on his shoulder, while in his right hand he appears to be holding a hunting net. Around him extends a landscape that could represent the city of Montelupo, with fields, trees and a clearly visible building. Of exquisite workmanship and great historical importance, this majolica plate is part of the tradition of the renowned ceramic activity of Montelupo, located near Florence, active during the Renaissance and post-Renaissance, and dates back to around the 17th century.
