Doyle Lane California Studio Pottery Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Three Bead Set

About the Item

A beautifully designed, gorgeously glazed, original ceramic three three-bead set (one burnt red, one ocean blue, one white crackle glaze) by famed mid-century American artist and potter Doyle Lane. Lane was a glaze specialist much like Glen Lukens and Otto Natzler. His colorful glazes would melt, bubble, and crack over his pieces creating a very tactile look and feel. His work ranged from beaded necklaces and pendants to small, delicate vases or weed pots to ceramic sculptures, clay paintings, and large-scale wall mosaics (including his most well-known work - an 18-foot mosaic or mural known as the Orange Wall which was commissioned by architect Welton Becket in 1964 for mutual savings & loan offices in Pasadena, California). These beads feature his recognizable tactile and boldly colorful glazes/ designs and would make for a gorgeous necklace once strung properly (Doyle's self-made necklaces often featured metal and brass washers and rope which he famously acquired from his local hardware store). These beads were acquired directly from Doyle by the previous owner who also provided the photo of Lane working in his studio. We are happy to include this. Doyle's work has become quite scarce and hard to find. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Lane's work or other mid-century ceramic masters or make for an eye-catching vintage jewelry piece for either a man or woman once displayed. Lane's work can be found in numerous collections and museums including: Los Angeles county museum of art Oakland Museum of California California African American Museum Smithsonian American Art Museum Huntington Library, San Marino. Each bead approxamiate dimensions: .6" high, 1.1" wide, .6" deep
