17 Artist Mask Collection, Limited Edition of Traditional Carnival Black Forest

About the Item

Extraordinary and complete collection of 17 artist ceramic masks of traditional Black Forest Carnival costumes by Alfred Schladerer, Germany. Ranging from the first 1954/55 unglazed/unpainted, to the very last one: the Gole in 1972. This set features designs from the traditional witch of the middle ages, red riding hood, a devil with wound horns, the ''Herdermer Dalli'', as much as the wife of the traditional guild ''Haensele'' wearing the impressive head attire in gold embroidery ''Überlinger Goldhaube'' (center top row, ''golden hood''). This complete edition was issued as New Year greetings each year, ending altogether 1972 with the Gole. Famously known world wide for their historical costumes, these masks are a beautiful display of folk art reaching back as far as the middle ages. The sizes vary in height between 65 mm (2.36 inches) to 105 mm (3.93 inches) approx.. The masks are displayed in reverse order of the year they were released.
