About the Item

Vintage Guatemalan Blue and White Ikat Textile. Indigo dyed thick hand-spun cotton warp ikat woven from sets of mirror image designs depicting rows of 13 trees, dancers, floral diamonds and vegetation. the warp strands braided and tied off at the ends. Ikat textiles such as this one are made with back strap looms in Guatemala. Sets of the cotton warp threads are dyed prior to weaving, thus creating mirror imagery when woven. Slight row misalignment otherwise fine condition. Weft 27.5 inches, Warp including fringe 74 inches (70x188cm) 11.7 ounces (333grams) Circa 1980. Provenance: A Palm Springs California estate.
