About the Item

19th Century Sailor's Woolie of Canadian Fort, circa 1860, a British sailor's folk art woolwork depicting a fleet of various sized and rigged vessels and gunboats sailing around a Canadian fortress. Note the kayak paddling in the foreground! This is an extremely unusual and rare subject for a woolie... it is in fact the only one I have ever seen. The woolie remains in fine, very strong and stable condition with only a small amount of the expected raised yarn ends. The colors remain bright and vibrant, with little discernible fading. Mounted in a period, likely original frame. Measures: 14-3/4 in H x 17-3/4 in W Framed: 19-3/4 in H x 22-3/4 in W

Antique Double Sailor's Valentine, circa 1880, a pair of handcrafted shell collages mounted in mahogany octagonal shadowboxes, hinged together and mounted with a clasp and a chain for hanging. This valentine features a heart and the message "Forget Me Not." The valentine is in great condition, but does of course have a few shells that have come loose over the past century and a half. The cases remain in great condition as well. Each Measures: 9-1/8 in H x 9-1/8 in W Victorians in the Age of Exploration and its accompanying Eclectic Movement embraced arts and crafts from around the world.
