Two Brass Maritime Taffrail Spinners
About the Item
Two solid brass taffrail spinners with braided rope and coupling used to send data back to the shipboard log. The blade is engraved "NEGUS NEW TORK" with a large "N" also. This unit has been meticulously polished and lacquered. The taffrail spinner would be attached via a coupling and rope to the mechanical "log" which would be attached to the taffrail (the stern railing on a vessel) and would record speed and distance travelled. Unique piece of nautical decor. Circa 1940.
