About the Item
19th Century Decorated Sea Chest, having a hinged lid with breadboard edges, above a dovetailed case with applied molding around base, the original wooden beckets with relief carved and gilded stars and sailor's spliced rope handles, in old green paint that is over the original coat of blue primer, and has a later decorated front with a full seascape featuring a bold square-rigged ship under full sail, and a second ship visible on horizon in background; the interior has a covered till or glove box.
The chest remains in excellent condition, as does the painted decoration with only a few dents and scuffs.
