About the Item

A fantastic, wonderfully designed African tribal art Korhogo Textile painting by the Senufo people of Korhogo, Ivory Coast. Korhogo textile painting (This type of cloth painting came to being in the 1960s) are done in neutral and earthy tones like browns, blacks and creams. Korhogo is made by hand painting designs on hand woven and hand spun cotton fabric. The paintings are done using a specially fermented mud-based and natural vegetal pigment and are often decorated with symbols of humans, natural elements like the sun, moon and stars and animals, all of which are rooted in Senufo culture and mythology. The Senufo use the cloth as a shield against vengeful spirits by wearing or hanging them in homes/shrines. They are also commissioned for hunters as well as rite of passage events like funerals/special ceremonies. This work should look fantastic as a wall hanging or once framed as a piece of art. An original one of a kind piece. Would be a great addition to any tribal or folk art collection or make for an eye catching accent artwork in about any setting.
