Fabulous 19th century oil painting on canvas of a group of four racing pigeons pecking in the grass. The work is unsigned but recalls the influence of artist Edward Henry Windred, famous for his romanticized portraits of these remarkable birds trained to find their way home from a given starting point. Look closely at the bird’s feet to see their metal cuffs to identify them. Take note that there are a few condition issues: two punctures in the canvas and some areas of loss, otherwise the subdued palette remains clear.
