Large South Indian India Asian Original Pichwai Painting of Elephant Procession

About the Item

A truly gorgeous, quite large and decorative, engaging South Indian Asian (India) Pichwai and/or gouache painting in a heavy two-sided acrylic frame featuring an evening Maharaja royal procession (perhaps a wedding ceremony) with a royal couple on elephant back and a starry night landscape in the background. A beautiful and tranquil scene featuring bold colors and a dynamic composition. Pichwai (pichvai) is a Folk Art style of painting that originated in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India over 400 years ago. Intricate and visually stunning, Pichwai paintings, most commonly made on cloth/canvas, depict various tales from Lord Krishna's life amongst other various scenes. Creating a Pichwai painting requires immense and practiced skill and can take several months. The smallest details need to be painted with absolute precision. Artists spend years developing their Craft. We are listing as the 20th Century but the painting could be older, perhaps the 19th century. This original one-of-a-kind work would be a great addition to any Asian or Indian art or artifacts collection or a very eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting.
