About the Item

Unique Original Signed Folk Art Painting by Robyn “The Beaver” Beverland. Signed and dated 1992. 24" x 20" Artist Bio: Robyn “The Beaver” Beverland found great joy in many things but what he most loved was painting. Robyn painted his Folk Art pictures using regular house paint and plywood that was gathered from a local lumber yard cutting floor. The subjects of his Folk Art came from his imagination. Robyn’s artistic accomplishments made him a regular Folk Artist at The Very Special Arts Gallery in Washington DC, New York City, and all over the United States. The Very Special Arts Gallery was founded by Jean Kennedy Smith as an educational affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and in 1992 “The Beaver” was featured on the center’s Special Invitations. Along with his artistic venues, when he wasn’t painting he spent many hours doing volunteer work in his hometown of Oldsmar, Florida. There was no doubt that he was devoted to helping people and the number of the awards he was given for his unselfish volunteer work were especially meaningful. If he were here today, Robyn would tell you that he had no problems because God, his family, and people loved him. This is not to say that his life was easy – it was far from easy – he, and his parents, had many difficult obstacles to overcome. His life ended on August 22, 1998 at the age of 41, after spending nine months on a ventilator in the ICU unit of a local hospital, but what he left behind lives on and on. Many of Robyn’s Folk Art pictures and awards he received are listed on this website. They are witness to the great courage he displayed throughout his life.
