About the Item

In this work from her geometric period, Isa Di Battista Gorini employs gauze as both a structural and poetic element, layering it over the painted surface like a delicate veil that both reveals and conceals. The geometric forms, essential yet never rigid, unfold across planes and transparencies, suspended in a balance that appears fragile and yet is deeply intentional. On the canvas, traces of time can be seen: small fractures in the material, light abrasions, uneven veils of color. These are not imperfections, but presences-time is not erased, but embraced as part of the creative process. The gauze, aged or partially faded, interacts with these elements, making the work not just an image, but a visual memory. Isa Di Battista Gorini is a Milan-based painter who studied painting and decoration at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. After an early career in advertising graphics, she devoted herself entirely to painting, developing a personal artistic language focused on materiality, transparency, and abstract form. In the 1980s, she began to use gauze as a distinctive material in her work, creating layered compositions rich in lightness, transparency, and symbolic geometry. Her paintings explore the relationship between the visible and the invisible, between sign and silence, between structure and poetry. Through exhibitions such as "The Mystery of the Sign," "Secret Stones," and "My Robots," Gorini presented a vision of art as a process of transformation-a language shaped by both matter and spirituality. Her style blends lyrical abstraction with structural tension, encouraging a contemplative dialogue with the viewer. .

Jean Da Milano, Painting, France, circa 2000

Jean Da Milano (1928-2017), painting, Creased paper, Signed lower right, circa 2000, France. Measures: Height 115 cm, Width 90 cm Jean Da Milano is an abstract painter from Nice who was cradled by the rich breeding ground of the School of Nice and its artists. Active from the 1960s to the 2008s, his works were forgotten and rediscovered by the HARTER Gallery, which today highlights his touch. According to Agnès Roux, Honorary Secretary for Culture, “Jean Da Milano is one of those modest painters who knew how to develop abstract painting alongside his contemporaries. In an infinite world, the Kinetic object on an astral background gradually transforms into a pictorial relief, where the painting falsely becomes painting and invisibly paper. The humility of its formats does not give the work the fullness it deserves. But the almighty gaze of the spectator engenders the feelings and sensations of a cosmogonic painting steeped in universality ". We indeed observe in his work an evolution which begins with an almost cosmic painting in the 70s, then what we could qualify as “implosions” in the 80s and finally, a real research on paper and pictorial relief. in the 2000s. According to Georges Braque "Everyone is a creator, the viewer is himself a creator, it is the way of seeing that gives life to the object.
