1930's - 1940's Woven Beer Pot Cover, Cameroon

About the Item

Beautifully decorated covers such as this were traditionally placed over large earthen vessels of local brew, with the intricacy of their designs reflecting the significance of the valued contents inside. Tightly woven from raffia fibre using the coiled technique into a circular form, this pot cover displays a beautiful decorative pattern of free-flowing abstract designs in various colours, with a central large plastic or glass red bead in the centre. -Ex Private Collection, UK -Dimensions on Mount: 4‍6.5cm x 46.5cm (Custom Mounted)
