African Tribal Carved Wood High Back Chair

About the Item

Carved and painted wood with an openwork tiered bucket form back. The top tier with female figures, the bottom row with horsemen holding small-scale figures on top of the horses' heads. The shaped back with a dentated top border and two carved panels with birds. Panels with snakes frame the openwork back. The oval seat mounted on a quadruped. Incised details overall. Dimensions: height 45 1/2", width 18", depth 18", seat height 16", width 15", depth 17". Condition: Well-worn surfaces especially the back, scrapes to the seat edges, the animals and female figures. Loss to one horseman arm and base mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is powerful and authentic. Please see photos for details.
