About the Item

Antique Dida Woman’s Plaited Loin Cloth, Ivory Coast This unusual textile is made from hand-plaited raffia fiber that is then tie or stitch-resist dyed with natural pigments, creating a richly textured surface. The tubular structure of this loin cloth involves a particularly complicated plaiting process beginning at the top and involving 1200-1500 raffia fibers segregated into multiple groups.
