About the Item

Antique Woman’s Ceremonial Beaded Cache-sexe (Pikuran), Cameroon Worn by the Bana Guilli (Kirdi) women of the Mandara Mountain region in northern Cameroon, pubic aprons, or cache-sexe, were worn by young adult women on a number of ceremonial occasions, including rites of passage, marriage, child-birth related rituals and other festivities. Eye dazzling geometric and abstract patterns rendered in colorful beadwork are common among the Bana Guilli cache-sexe. This unusual example of diagonally arranged red diamonds on a pale blue ground includes an unlikely automobile. Width: 26 inches, Height: 9.5 inches
