Beninese Bronze and Rope Bust

About the Item

Created in Benin some time during the late 19th Century, and acquired at the Albert F. Gordon Tribal Arts Gallery in New York in the early 1970s, this is a bronze cast bust embellished with a coiled and woven rope base, typical of the Beninese and Nigerian tribes that inhabited the Niger River delta. It measures 11" in diameter, and stands 14" in height.
