About the Item
Fon carved heavy hard wood ceremonial seat with multiple figures, from Benin, Africa. Dark stained wood with worn areas from use, "U" shaped seat supported by four caryatid figures, male and female holding various elements. Each armrest carved with two kneeling figures side by side.
It is in good condition, appropriate for its age, use, and medium. Well used with worn patina, chips, scuffs and nicks here and there. Arm to one of the caryatid figures absent. Stable crack in base.
Mid 20th century or older.
