18th Century Genoese Church Gilded and Crystal Chandelier

About the Item

Genovese Louis XVI chandelier in carved and gilded wood, circa 1780, similar to the chandeliers in the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. It consists of a central shaft in turned, carved and gilded wood with six curved iron arms, decorated with period crystals. The central stem is carved with plant motifs and gilded in fine gold; this central support, composed of several elements. There are two additional layers of festoons of transparent crystal beads, supported by iron arms, with some amber, red and amethyst crystal. surmounted by crystal flowers with a central colored or striped crystal bead. All original detail showing timeless elegance of this chandelier. The six arms that branch off from the lower wooden element are in curved, ending with gilded iron bobeches, as the chandelier was originally lit with candles.
