About the Item
Beautiful Antique Italian Lantern.
Unusual and unique survivor of its time, this Lantern shows two very clear influences in its manufacture, first is the decoration in the purple and blue glass filaments which evoque the inscriptions on medieval Mosque lamps and secondly the "Pot au feu" theme popularized in France during the 16th and 17th centuries.
This lamp was most likely manufactured as an oil lamp (pre electricity) and adapted posteriorly.
The lamp manufactured in Murano Glass in clear (iridescent) glass adorned with blue and purple glass accents consists of a main body (Urn) suspended from a canopy with a Flame finial and 3 arms made of individual glass segments.
The light holds one E27 bulb.
