About the Item
- An extremely rare Carl Zeiss Jena ceiling/wall lamp by Adolf Meyer, Germany circa 1920.
- Designed by well known Bauhaus architect Adolf Meyer, the lamp has a stepped brass body with acid etched glass bowl shade which is fully stamped 'Carl Zeiss Jena'.
- These type of lights were specifically made for use in large public buildings and retail environments all of which contained a mercury mirror glass inner reflector which directs most of the light source downwards. The lamp has been produced by Zeiss Ikon with the famous Jena quality glass.
- Height 43cm, Width 31cm, Depth 31cm.
- Rewired and PAT tested, ready to install.
Zeiss Ikon was a German company that was formed in Jena, 1926 by the merger of four camera makers and an infusion of capital by Zeiss, they are world renowned and an historic name in the field of photography. The company formed one part of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, another part being the optical company Carl Zeiss and which produced lighting for offices, homes and public buildings. They were especially known for their glass mirror lighting and high quality design with Adolf Meyer the chief designer in the mid 1920s.
