Art Nouveau chandelier with Johann Loetz Witwe glass ca. 1900

About the Item

In Vienna around 1900, one could find both the strictly geometric and the French-influenced floral Art Nouveau. This piece demonstrates the different ways in which glass could be used. Three arranged elements hang from an elegantly decorative, hand-beaten brass structure. Each element consists of a leaf-shaped brass mount and a Loetz glass shade. These lampshades, in the 'Goldiris' decoration, combine the elegance and austerity of the brass of the chandelier with the playful Loetz glass.
