Cesare Toso Pearl Rezzonico Chandelier 9 Arms All in Gold Leaf over Clear, 1980s
About the Item
Grand Ca Rezzonico chandelier. All made in clear glass with 24-karat gold leaf embedded into glass.
The use of gold leaf highlights and bring preciousness to the chandelier.
There are two highlights on this chandelier, the first is a row of glass spheres swaging from one arm to the other. These pearls garlands are repeated here and there on the chandelier structure.
The other is the use of S and C elements that are called Pastorali in rigadin.
The whole purpose is to catch a reflect the light.
The structure has 9 arms and the 3 stems called tiranti are holding each 2 staggered trionfi with pastorali, lantern and leaves.
Great centra trionfo which is part of the well execution of a Rezzonico. The cage made by the 3 stems leaves a space in the center that is used for a Baroque construction. Because the 3 stems are elongate to allow the two trionfi, the central trionfo was raised. The result is just beautiful.

Cesare Toso was one of the most important players of the Murano of the last part of the 20th century. For those who arrives to Murano his furnace is now signed by a fallen wall that witnesses the abandoning of the plant. He has a moment of large popularity with the grape chandeliers. This chandelier comes from his best period and has everything made perfectly.
A luxury chandelier to match a magnificent mansion, will also look great contrasting a modern home or a loft. Needs high ceiling.

The filigree/filigrana glass is a cane with a color inside. Usually clear on the outside with a core in colored or opaque glass. Most used are white or black filigrana. This is a self-made filigrana as there is a green coating over an Amethyst core, making the Amethyst almost a dark bronze color. The other cane is clear with amethyst. The twisting (mena in muranese, or ritorto) makes a lay with the back of the vase almost as it is a reticello (once called filigrana, so that explains the term mezza filigrana).
