About the Item

An early 19th century Russian chandelier having eight candle arms. The design is intended to represent waterfalls. The central stem of the chandelier is in four tiers each hung with original long cut crystals and almond shaped drops. The central stem connects to four downward sloping gilt frames all hung with ‘drapes’ of similar long crystals. At the four corners of the suspended gilt frames are attached two uprising candle arms each having crystals along the top of the arm as well as hanging from the arms. The arms terminate in gilded bronze candle nozzles. Suspended from the frames hangs another circular gilt bronze framed cobalt blue bowl, again all suspended with crystals. O The chandelier came rom the estate of one of the Woodward siblings of Vancouver who owned and operated the chain of Woodwards department stores store chain that operated in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, for one hundred years, before its sale to the Hudson's Bay Company.
