About the Item

La Chimera Fiorentina’, Hand-Painted Italian Pendant Light in Renaissance Revival Style, circa 1900. A rare and exquisitely crafted Italian pendant light, dating to the turn of the 20th century, this piece is a masterful fusion of art, mythology, and craftsmanship. Suspended within an elegantly forged wrought iron cradle, the hand-blown amber glass globe glows with a warm honeyed hue and is richly adorned with vibrant polychrome enamel paintings. Two fantastical mythological creatures—reminiscent of Renaissance-era sphinxes—grace the sides of the globe, flanking a central urn overflowing with floral abundance. Their brightly plumed wings and regal postures evoke a sense of timeless nobility and artistic whimsy. This highly detailed artwork appears to be executed in the stile rinascimentale fantastico, a decorative tradition deeply rooted in Italy’s artistic heritage. The hammered iron frame, with its curled and scalloped motifs, has a raw elegance that contrasts beautifully with the ornate glass, elevating the pendant from mere lighting to a sculptural statement. The original hanging chain and ceiling mount remain intact, offering authentic vintage charm. Electrified for modern use, the fixture casts a rich, ambient glow when lit, ideal for entryways, dining rooms, or curated interiors with a historic or eclectic design narrative. This pendant is more than lighting, it’s a story. A mythical fusion of fantasy and form, combining painterly glasswork with masterful metalcraft. It transports us to a grand Italian villa where every object tells a tale. A singular find for collectors of rare decorative arts and historical lighting. If you like the look and feel of this rare pendant as much as we do then you will love our price. Antique Art Nouveau ceiling fixture with 10 hand-blown glass panels. An exquisite and rare Art Nouveau pendant light, fully embodying the organic elegance and craftsmanship of the Jugendstil movement. This exceptional fixture is not just lighting .. it’s a sculptural artwork that brings period authenticity and timeless beauty into any space. The chandelier features a bronze and brass frame with a rich, aged patina. It holds 10 gracefully curved, hand-blown art glass panels, each delicately opalescent with soft hints of pale green and white. When lit, the glass panels emit a warm, diffused glow that enhances the fixture's sculptural lines and highlights its organic elegance (see photos with light on). In the 1920s, Jean Noverdy created lamps with shades most often in glass with two layers between which he sprayed colored enamels to give a marmoreal look. Vases and molded glass shades are also part of his production. The same techniques used by Daum Frères, André Delatte and Muller Frères in this period. He also created vases and etched acid tones in the style of the Nancy school. Between 1926 and 1928, he was present at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris.
