About the Item

A stunning and high quality French 19th century Belle Époque Period Louis XVI st. Onyx and Ormolu chandelier. This stunning five arm six light chandelier is centered by a foliated acorn bottom finial beneath the circular mottled dome which showcases a singular internal light which beautifully illuminates the Onyx body. The round Onyx body is surrounded on three sides by seated maidens dressed in foliate decorated dresses with their hair elegantly pulled back. The neck of the body is accented with an Ormolu laurel vine band within a receded wrap around channel. Emerging from the top of the chandelier is an array of floral decorations which houses the other five electrified bulbs amongst the reeds. Behind each of the three maidens is a vertical mount for the three Ormolu chains that lead upward to the impressive top crown. Each chain is held sternly in the beak of a hawk with a berried finial located below. Above the three hawks is a floral bouquet of blossoming flowers which completes the elegance this astonishing piece. *Shades, Canopies and Chain shown for display purposes, sold separately.
