About the Item

A large French Empire style 16-light crystal and gilt metal basket chandelier from the 19th century, with scrolling arms, diamond and rosette motifs. Born in France during the politically dynamic 19th century, this exquisite chandelier features a series of gilt metal rings, adorned with diamond-shaped crystals and topped with rosettes. Strands of faceted crystals drape the ensemble and connect the upper section to the basket, to which 16 scrolling arms of alternating height, are connected. The lower section finds its perfect conclusion in the faceted finial that hangs from the center. With its large proportions and airy silhouette, this large French 19th century Empire style crystal and gilt metal chandelier, wired for the US, will enliven any home beautifully, perhaps hung in a foyer or living room.
