French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu And Crystals Lantern
About the Item
A sensational and most unique French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Crystals lantern. The large scale eight arm eight light lantern is centered by an Ormolu rosette with an acorn finial. Surrounding the finial is an array of swaging Crystal garlands leading up to the base of the circular Ormolu cage. The base of the cage contains fine Ormolu sprays with rosettes and hanging Crystal garlands. The four sided rounded cage encases the eight 'S' scrolled acanthus leaf decorated arms and has one glass panel which opens with a pierced Ormolu key. The highly detailed top edge of the cage is decorated with flowing tied Ormolu ribbons, swaging Ormolu beaded garlands, and Ormolu sprays with Crystal pendants hanging from each end. Above each corner of the cage are four finials with draping acanthus leaf decorations. Leading up from the top of the cage are four square mottled edged supports flanking an array of swaging Crystal garlands leading up to the beautiful top crown. The top crown is a finely decorated with Ormolu sprays and Crystal rosettes all emerging from an Ormolu acorn base below.
