French Rococo Revival Style Gilt Blue Glass Chandelier

About the Item

French Rococo Revival style gilt blue glass chandelier French, early 20th century Measures: Height 115cm, diameter 96cm This superb chandelier is a wonderfully vibrant piece of early 20th century French design. The chandelier is designed loosely in the French Rococo Revival style, but its design hints at other European decorative glass traditions, particularly those of Bohemia and Murano. The eight-light chandelier is crafted from clear glass that has been overlaid on occasion with blue glass and parcel gilt. This practice, known as overlay glass, has a long tradition in French decorative art. The chandelier is comprised of a central column of four tiers: the lowest tier supports the light branches, while the penultimate tier supports a series of ornate clear glass scrolls. The glass throughout features a vibrant blue overlay and delicate parcel gilding. The light branches are ornately scrolled, with each terminating in a blue overlay glass candleholder and drip pan.

Early 20th C. French Rococo Revival 6 Arm Gilt Bronze and Crystal Chandelier
Located in Chicago, IL
This early 20th-century six-arm Rococo-style gilt bronze and crystal chandelier features porcelain plaques inspired by the works of Jean-Honoré Fragonard, a renowned French Rococo painter. The Rococo style is celebrated for its ornate elements, intricate curves, and nature-inspired motifs. The chandelier's cast bronze body is adorned with porcelain plaques and crystal prisms in various shapes and sizes. Encrusted crystal beads at the bottom enhance illumination and beauty. When lit, the faceted crystals create a brilliant display, complementing the exquisite bronze detailing. This chandelier blends seamlessly with another similar chandelier, which, while not identical, mirrors its aesthetic charm. This chandelier is made of gilt bronze and brass, offering a luxurious and luminous appearance due to the thin layer of gold gilding, known as ormolu. In contrast, the other chandelier is not gilt, featuring a natural, darker bronze patina. Together, they pair harmoniously with our tall early 20th-century French Giltwood Mirror featuring Fragonard porcelain...
