About the Item

An original alabaster and gray rope pendant light designed and produced in France, c. 1930s. This French Art Deco alabaster bowl shape chandelier exhibits a distinguished splash of light grey natural striations and features its original alabaster canopy. The alabaster has an appealing semi gloss surface sheen with natural veining and texture. Mounted on a gray painted silk style rope twist armature with stepped nickel plated decorative mounts and characterized by a square border rim surround. A large carved stylized floral cabuchon accents this pure, elegant architectural alabaster plafonnier. The minimalist form seems to float effortlessly in space, embodying a sublime and refined aesthetic. Holds one Edison socket. Bulb not included In very, very good condition with flea bite imperfections, abrasions and/ or marks. Lovely and delicate French Art Deco frosted art glass blossom chandelier signed Noverdy, France depose. Its distinctive design comprises four "V" shaped, fan like, jagged edged panels, each depicting stylized floral, scroll and leaf motifs, creating a natural and visually captivating setting. The chandelier frame is elegantly mounted by four decorated tubular bars held by a matching square canopy and features "les perles" which is beading that resembles a strand of pearls, all finished in its original light silver painted, hand forged iron with a martele surface finish. The motif showcasing a harmonious blend of artistic craftsmanship and functional design. The view from underneath appears like a blossoming flower or a floral bouquet. Art Deco, popular during the 1920s and 1930s, was known for its geometric shapes, bold colors, and intricate designs. The fixture holds both aesthetic and historical value, reflecting the design trends and craftsmanship of the Art Deco era in France. JEAN NOVERDY- During the early years of the Twentieth Century Jean Noverdy studied and worked at the Muller Frerès factory at Luneville, France. In 1925, Jean and his father René Drouhot acquired Verrerie des Vosges, a glass factory, and later expanded their enterprise by acquiring another glass factory and establishing their own glass studio in Dijon. The glass produced bore the signature "Noverdy" for Nouvelle Verrerie de Dijon. Noverdy produced at the same time as Daum, Schneider and Degué, and the quality and design of his art glass have made his name world-renowned.
