About the Item

A frosted glass pendant light manufactured by Napako, Prague, during the 1960s. This type of glass pendant light was typical of the sort of lighting manufactured by Napako during the late 1950s to early 1960s. These bowl-shaped pendants, adorned with geometric designs, came in a variety of shapes and colours. Variations on this design, as well as other Napako lamps, were reportedly featured in the Czechoslovak Pavillion at the 1958 Brussel's World Fair. The theme of the award-winning Czechoslovak pavilion was 'One Day in Czechoslovakia'. Divided into themes of 'Work- Culture- Rest", the pavilion contained the Socialist vision of a thoroughly modern Czechoslovakia. A nation grounded in culture and heritage, but crucially led by industrial advancements. This pendant is emblematic of this moment of in Czechoslovak design history. A strikingly modern pendant adorned with a frosted, radial design, that was able to be industrially produced for international export.
